We decided to get a little more sophisticated with the Potluck this time around:
– it has its own website;
– we’ve increased the number of participants; and
– we’re going to try and synchronize our posts so that they are all published at the same time. Or thereabouts.
What follows is a list of time zones around the world. Scroll down to locate your country in the list and get the time/date on which you should schedule your post. The “starting” point for this list is 12:01 AM Eastern Time for the United States. Note that some of us here in the States will actually be publishing on October 31 rather than on November 1.
Ouch. My head still hurts from figuring all of this out.

It’s easy to schedule posts for publication. In WordPress you’ll find it under Publish (at the right side of the Edit Post page). Click on Schedule, select the date and time and then click Okay. (Make sure that you understand the difference between “military” and “civilian” time. A mistake here and you’ll be way off on your publishing time.) There will be a blue Schedule button just below this. Click on that to update and you’re all set.
In Blogger, you’ll find the Schedule capability at the right side of your create/edit post; click and then click on Set Date and Time. When you’ve put in the correct date and time, click on Done.
And now for something completely different – – One year ago today: Chocolate Creme Pie
I don’t see Australia 🙂 Is this something we need to email out separately to participants? It’s one week away!!!
Dang – I did it, but forgot to add it – I’ll update. D’oh!
Figured as much. too many aussie’s participating to leave them out 😉
Okay – updated here and on website.
Nice 🙂
Wow! Super coordination. Thanks Annie!
Let’s keep our fingers crossed that it all works!!
You guys rock!!! You are amazing figuring all this out Annie – now rest your brain, it would hurt if it was mine 🙂
My head’s swimming, I feel I need a lie down.
See?? Terrible stuff, time.
I admit it. I had help. Kel did most of the figuring, bless him! (There’s a wonderful tool on the Internet, wouldn’t you know!)
Thanks for figuring this all out . I set mine to auto-post last time and it didn’t work, so I don’t trust the automated feature! WordPress is being strange in general lately for me. I will just post that night manually to avoid breaking the chain!
I used to have problems, too, then I realized that my time in Settings was set to GMT and not to my local time. That fixed it right up. Also, I’ve found the WP help folks to be really nice and responsive. One other blogger told me about scheduling issues and she contacted them and the problem was solved. But – do whatever feels comfy for you :-)!
Thanks for this tip, I changed my time settings, and it was set to something wonky. I appreciate it!
It’s so close 🙂
Cheers

Anticipation :-)! Will it all come together??
It’s a good job you’re a nice gal, if you were otherwise inclined you could be an evil genius! I’m relieved I don’t have to get up at 4am to publish my post.
Yeah, I get off easy, too! Funny to be publishing the day before – well, it’s the day before for me anyway!
I think I am going to have to start my own vegan food website just so I can enter next year! I feel left out 🙁
YES!! We want you to feel left in ;-)!
I am starting to think that I might think about a food blog…After we finish our Diploma’s that leaves me with time to twiddle my thumbs and I am a bad person with time on my hands! Poor long suffering Steve suddenly finds himself being dragged off into the countryside to nurseries off the beaten track, forced to strip bark off things so that I can make bug houses…forced to wander the bush in the hunt for strange and unusual plants to rehouse…in other words it would be saving his sanity 😉
I think that would be a wonderful idea! For you, for Steve and for us!
9 PM for Vancouver – awesome!! Perfect timing while I snack on that Halloween candy… 🙂 Great work co-ordinating Annie!
I know – funny to post the day before, huh?
I love seeing how big our potluck is, geographically-speaking! Good thing it’s virtual 😉
Pretty cool, huh?
So glad to have seen this, and to have remembered that we post on my sister’s and not my time… confusing that. Thanks for all your hard work; I have a bit of a headache just looking at it. You are a good soul.
I have this fear that it’s all wrong – and we’ll all be terribly off – but it’ll all work out somehow, right?
It will all work out – like weddings and high school musicals. Big production magic.
I memorized all the times and countries just so I can be a good participant. I was wondering what I was going to do today 🙂
great job!
I appoint you the Official Time Zone ambassadress!
Thanks for doing the hard work, and I’ve got it all scheduled. I should be home from my trip at that time, but don’t want to let my side down! So excited!
I love hearing how folks have gotten their posts ready ahead of time :-)!
Just finished it up and scheduled. Of course I’ll update the links when I can! 🙂
Thank you!
You are a legend for doing all the work here! Most other bloggers just give you a time in the US and then just tell you to figure it out yourself, which is a real pain in the arse!
That’s what I did with the last one – it went pretty well – but I figured it would be helpful for people to know an exact time. I’m a dedicated planner by nature anyway! And I like the idea of all of these blogs kind of launching at once ;-)!
I’m on it! And I love that it starts at 9 pm West Coast time–I can begin browsing through it as an antidote to the Halloween candy. 🙂
That’s right – you get a jump start on things!
“It’s easy to schedule posts for publication. In WordPress you’ll find it under Publish (at the right side of the Edit Post page). Click on Schedule, select the date and time and then click Okay. ”
Good idea! 😀
Then you don’t have to worry!
Yes Somer too many Aussies 🙂 Our population may be small compared to you guys, but we can cook delicious food 🙂 (I know you know this already) Cheers Mate !!!!
You Aussies are well-represented! Honored to have you all aboard!
being able to schedule stuff on wordpress for another time is a great tool i love it. and agreed we are all happy to have the Aussies aboard :]
