Look at that bad boy!! That’s a humongous Brandywine that came out of our garden. I have no idea how it didn’t break the vine on which it was growing. State Fair material, don’t you think? But this fine specimen would never have lasted until September, and anyway, I had plans for it. A savory smoothie plan, to be exact.

Bloody Mary Green Smoothie
- Total Time: 10
- Yield: 2 1x
Ingredients
Scale
- 5–6 cups fresh tomatoes, chopped
- 1/4 cup parsley*
- 1/2 cup English cucumber (no need to peel if organic)
- 2 dates, chopped
- 1 stalk celery, chopped, plus additional small stalks for garnish

- 1 tsp. vegan Worcestershire sauce

- handful of bibb lettuce or try arugula
Instructions
- Put all of the ingredients (except the celery reserved for garnish) into a blender and process until very smooth.
- Taste and adjust seasonings. Serve immediately.

Suddenly I’m thirsty… 🙂
🙂 Makes for a very refreshing hot weather drink!
That tomato is massive! Your smoothies always look so drinkable with their frothy tops and all that fresh goodness stuffed in. Make mine a bloody mary green smoothie, please barman.
Isn’t it a beauty??
Of course, one could add a little “accelerant” to this smoothie if desired ;-)…
This looks awesome. I’ll give it a try!
Thank you! It’s very refreshing!
I so wish I had room for a garden in my yard, but space is a luxury for only the very rich in California (as you know having lived in Santa Monica before moving to the boonies). Your tomato is huge and lovely. I’m not sure that the Bloody Mary smoothie is for me, however. I’m sure it’s great for people who like bloody Mary’s, but I’m not a fan. Celeste 🙂
Space was the prime motivator for us to leave Washington, DC. Kel really, really, really wanted a garden. As with everything, being in the boonies has its good and bad sides. Right now I wouldn’t trade it :-).
What a wonderful big juicy looking home grown tomato, Annie! 🙂 Waw! I also love, love this tasty drink! Yummmm! I can’t wait to try it with my home grown cherry tomatoes! 😉
That sounds wonderful, Sophie!
TOMATO! I don’ t have any brandywines in this year, so I’m extra jealous. 🙂 A bloody mary smoothie sounds like such a perfect spicy stat to the day!
They’re so crazy-looking, aren’t they?
Wow–that tomato is beautiful! I am super jealous 🙂
Courtney
We had a very nice crop this year. Nothing like homegrown!
Wow, that is one awesome tomato! I am just starting to get a few ripe baby ones – no biggies yet!
You’ll be full-on before you know it!
are you sure thats a tomato.. that is huuuuge! i like the idea of a bloody mary smoothie every morning:)
Richa, I almost didn’t want to cut into it! Too beautiful. But I overcame that…
Wow! I must say- this is the most unique bloody Mary recipes I’ve seen, and I’ve seen a few. I know what I’m doing this weekend- thanks! http://bestbloodymaryrecipe.com/
I’m an amateur compared to you!!
I’d be well pleased if I grew a Tomato of that size. Fab!
We were VERY pleased!
Wow, I’m in love with that tomato and that recipe! I had fun juicing tomatoes, celery, and cucumber on my juice cleanse. A nice change from the sweet fruits and green juices. I love your addition of horseradish and hot sauce. Delicious!!
Yep, sometimes it’s nice to take a break from sweet drinks – and I LOVE horseradish!
That tomato looks amazing! I was late in the tomato planting game this year, and the only tomato plants that my nursery had were just plain old cherry tomatoes, which are still good, but nothing like this one! I have to admit, I’m not a huge fan of bloody marys, but I love how you added some green to it!
Cherry tomatoes are wonderful! I just picked the last of ours a few days ago. So sad. We started tomatoes early this year and somehow hit the timing just right. Gardening is hit or miss, isn’t it?
Shame on me for not seeing this post earlier. That tomato is spectacular and packed with that delicious vine ripened summer tom flavor 😉 I’m a little bored with my banana blueberry smoothies and this is just what I needed to spark my breakfast cravings again. You’ve inspired me as usual with such beautiful veggies! Thank you.
I’m missing the garden tomatoes already. Back to those pasty-faced tomato-imposters from the grocery.
Im kinda in love whith that tomato, what a beaut! Like seriosly, its saying “draw me like one of your french girls” to me…….
Heehee – exactly! It’s Rubenesque!
Now that tomato is one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever seen! I love the idea of your savory bloody mary smoothie. If I find me some garden tomatoes, I may have to get right to it! xx
I’ll bet you’ll have some neighbors soon begging you to take some tomatoes off of their hands!
I HOPE SO! 🙂
Well seeing as a Bloody Mary is one of my favourite drinks, I think I need to get over my savoury smoothie fear and try this!
I had the same fear! Truth be told, I still prefer a smoothie that is on the sweet side, but this was a nice change of pace.
Oh boy is this a brilliant idea! A great Bloody Mary taste and still able to function the rest of the day? This sounds wonderful! (and very grown up, which I usually try to avoid)…
Of course, no one said you couldn’t whip this up at 5 pm and throw in a splash of something stronger than water…
Indeed we all deserve a break – and an end to the days endeavors! 🙂
