Description
Smooth + Creamy + Chocolate + Hazelnut. Adds up to one delicious and refreshing smoothie, er, shake, er shookie!
Ingredients
Scale
- 1/2 cup hazelnut meal
- 1 cup non-dairy milk
- 1/2 cup water
- 2 ripe bananas (frozen, if desired – you will need more liquid, however)
- 1 cup chocolate ice cubes* (5–6 cubes)
- 3 Tbsp. cocoa or cacao powder
- 6 dates (less if using Medjools)
- Pure maple syrup, to taste
Instructions
- Put the hazelnut meal and about 1/2 cup of the non-dairy milk in a high-speed blender and process to further break down the meal. It doesn’t need to be super smooth yet. Add the remaining ingredients and continue to process until silky smooth. Taste and adjust for sweetness. Serve.
Notes
- *To make chocolate ice cubes, brew up some ground cacao. I put 5 Tbsp. ground cacao in a French press and pour 1 1/2-2 cups very hot water on top; brew for 5 minutes, then press and pour the liquid into a measuring cup. Let the liquid cool and then pour into ice cube molds. Freeze for several hours. You could also brew some chocolate tea, such as this, this or this.
